    D/loaded and installed 1.2 successfully.

But I only get an error to the effect that the action has encountered an error.

What might I be doing wrong, please?

    TIA!

I have same problem as Mark Sealey:

    Installed 1.2 version
Started Automator to create a “service”
When I play service created automator give me error message (5)
I noticed that convert to PDF action tell me “version 1.1″(??????)
Is this one the old version that gave problems?

You wrote “90% chance that cupsfilter doesn’t like your input?”

Can you explain me this and How I can solve this problem?

    Thank you for your help

Did you add the possibility to convert “horizontal” images to landscape PDF?

  4. Tripp H says:

I too am getting an error message. I have tested the files and they do print via the Finder File menu Print command. I used your sample workflow and gave it the file that previously printed via the Finder. Any ideas on what could be off?

This page is for version1.2 which I installed, but the file says it is version 1.1 even though the installer says it is version 1.2. Is that correct? I have downloaded it several times and all the downloads are the same.

My OSX is 10.6.2 on a Macbook pro 2.4

    Dear all,

Thank you for your comments, for the good ones and the more criticizing ones they keep this page and my interest in refining this tool, alive!

I am very impressed when I look at the amount of Convert to PDF actions downloaded so far and I have to apologize a little bit; I didn’t think it would get that big and didn’t put enough work into it.

The actual version is 1.2, the included Info.plist file was not updated to reflect this change and it still contains 1.1, but you have downloaded the new version.

    Geeky troubleshooting:

    —————————————
Is the problem coming from cupsfilter?
    —————————————

    open Terminal.app
cd [to the folder of your file]
    cupsfilter [yourinput file] > [outputfile].pdf

    f.ex

    ## in Terminal.app
    cd ~/Desktop/
    cupsfilter test.txt > test.pdf

So if you’re able to open test.pdf than cupsfilter works fine and Convert To PDF has a bug.

If you get an error message, or test.pdf is not converted successfully than you have a problem with cupsfilter.

more info on cupsfilter can be found on google: man cupsfilter

Hope this could help a little bit.

Thank you for sharing your tool. I put your tool in a service in automator, now I can use it through the right click. unfortunately it doesn’t work. It just says that an error has been detected and I got no pdf. Cupsfilter through terminal works fine to convert the same file. I use snow Leopard.

  8. Justin says:

Hello. Im just interested to know if it there a version of ‘convert tot pdf’ for Tiger OS 10.4.11 ?

  9. Ken Srimanunthiphol says:

After downloading the .dmg file I cannot see any “.action” file. There is only “intall” package which is not working on automator.

    I’m using SnowLeopard on 64bit.

    What should I do next?

    Thx

    Ken
