In my spare time; the little time left between sleeping, work and programming, I love to watch movies, read books and in-merge in the fascinating world of anime. I present you a selection of my favorite animes I’ve been watching over the last couple of years.
Some are well now, other I stumbled upon by chance. Some are more psychological and for a more adult audience than others. Note that I list them in no particular order.
Neon Genesis Evangelion

Neon Genesis Evangelion
Let us start with one all time classic. I read a lot of it in reviews but I was always reluctant at spending money on it. Neon Genesis Evangelion dwells in a futuristic setting. Yeah there are some battle going on, but the strong point of this anime is the incredible character development.
Most mainstream animes have very few character development if it all. You now from the start ho is the hero, who is the bad guy and the hero will kick the bad guy. Evangelion is very good at messing up the stereotypes. The should be hero doesn’t want to, but he is forced to take action.
Death Note

Death Note
A new comer that is able to catch you in with the two first episodes. After that you want more, you have the eminent desire to know more about how it will go on. This show replaced the actual fighting by clever thinking. Who is the best strategically the protagonist or antagonist? Who will win the game?
Watch Light make his move and be a step ahead of L, and next time perhaps the way around and L beats Light strategy. It is one of the fast paced series you want to watch if you like conspiracy theories.
Elfen Lied

Elfen Lied
Beside that I go mad for the opening theme. This anime is on my list, because the fighting is secondary to the plot development. It criticize human nature by introduce a new species able to kill at will.
A technique I first heard of reading War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells; he introduced the deadly laser beam, and tripods to show who the most advanced species handle earlier form of life.
In War of the Worlds you never get to see the alien. Lucky us Elfen Lied’s aliens are very cute and lovable if you are not meeting them at the moment where their instinct get triggered to kill and eradicate the human race.
Chobits

Chobits
They are cute, they are nearly perfect and they aren’t human. Persocom are like our personal computers we now and use but human like. Chobits seams the push the romantic and normal side of living with an alien further than Elfen Lied and in the same time leaves the fighting and killing behind.
Since I just started to watch this anime I can tell much about it. But the beginning is catchy.
