Quicktime

Quicktime

Flatten Movies is an Automator action to flatten every movie Quicktime is able to open. It does so by invoking the Quicktime.framework. Without opening Quicktime, the advantage is that no Quicktime window floats around, which can obstruct your desktop.

Favorite Animes

In my spare time; the little time left between sleeping, work and programming, I love to watch movies, read books and in-merge in the fascinating world of anime. I present you a selection of my favorite animes I’ve been watching over the last couple of years.

Some are well now, other I stumbled upon by chance. Some are more psychological and for a more adult audience than others. Note that I list them in no particular order.

Performs Ruby method in background

The easy of use I encountered when I first looked at Cocoa and Objective-C was overwhelming. I have to say that my first development environment was Windows 95 with its cryptic BitBlt function which was the only way to fast draw an image on screen. Five years after I had that experience and just before the advent of . Net Windows hackers had still to resort to the BitBlt function, or start using Direct X which is over kill for a simple app.
Than I met the beauty of Cocoa, where simple stuff is kept simple and complicated stuff gets really complicated! But Cocoa stays consistence with its logic and its way of providing solutions to programmers.
Today I want to take a little piece of Cocoa knowledge to ruby. The ability to spawn new threads like “performSelectorInBackground:withObject”.

The main purpose of this file is to be able to split the development code from the debugging code. Exploiting the fantastic ability of meta-programming in ruby, there is a way to write less and code more. Following the ruby way of not repeating code everywhere let’s start with this simple showcase:

A long time ago I came across a nifty little script called atchange. It worked and served me well. You give the script a file to watch for changes and a command to execute if changes occurred.

Why Media Temple

Why Media Temple? The main difference from other providers was that MediaTemple didn’t promise the lowest price! I did some research that proved me that if you are only willing to pay the lowest price, it is more than probable that you will only get the  lowest service. I only found some articles from one year ago complaining about MT, and the same sites try to sell you their own affiliated providers.

The second point, which that strengthen my decision if that MT doesn’t brag about affiliated program, where affiliates can earn as much as 80%  so there was no one trying to force selling me MT.

Up formerly I encountered no  problems. I have to admit that one week is not enough to judge the entire system. Subscription, installation, administration everything without troubles. Hope it keeps going the that way.

Peace of Mind

As for me? I switched to the Mac. No more grep, no more piping, no more
SED scripts. Just a simple, elegant life: “Your application has unexpect-
edly quit due to error number –1. OK?” by Donald A. Norman forword in the UnixHaters Handbook

The Past

To explain why the Mac changed my experience with personal computer; I have to begin my story in the 80s. In the past lies the answers to my present enjoyment with Macs. I ran through DOS 5.2, Windows 3.1, Windows95, RedHat Linux, Suse Linux, Windows2000, Storm Linux, BeOS, WindowsXP and finally Mac OS X.

Complex communication is one factor which differentiate human beings and animals; we are able to express complicated thoughts and ideas to our similar. This capability alone has been tested by many trials and errors over time; it proved to solve many problems, because as soon someone had found a solution for a problem he was able to share it with the rest of his community.
